In the last few weeks there has been lots going on at Tiny Tots Riding Club…
We welcomed our first boys to the group, Abraxas and Gwydion, and our youngest Tot, Paige, who is just 2 years old and manages to keep up with the older Tots very well!
We’ve learnt how to lead our ponies safely on the ground and how to put on a saddle and bridle (with a bit of help!).
The dry weather we’ve had (until now) and the good ground conditions have meant that we’ve been able to ride through our fields, learning more about cross country riding, being able to go for really long trots and play ‘Follow the Leader’, an excellent game for improving steering and awareness.
There have been quizzes, where Tots and their parents have been madly running around the yard (with all horses safely out of the way) trying to find the answer to questions such as, ‘What is the name of the tallest horse on the yard?’ and, ‘How many cats does Debbie have?’to win a small prize at the end.
We played games including ‘What Am I?’, where the Tots have to guess what the mystery equestrian item is used for. This is hilarious for anyone in the know with answers along the lines of, ‘A party skirt!’ for a fly fringe and, ‘A pony’s pillow!’ for a polypad.
Our regular Tots received their grooming achievement badges. These are awarded for understanding which are the nice soft brushes we can use all over our ponies and how to correctly use them, where to stand when grooming so that we are safe and how to pick out our pony’s feet.
